Gry Garness is Norwegian born, the daughter of broadcaster Bjørn Hansen and artist Rigmor Hansen. She relocated from the Arctic city of Tromsø to London in 1991 and has lived there since.

She works as a retoucher and Photoshop trainer/consultant, and her constant obsession is finding time to write Photoshop books in-between projects. Gry’s background has prepared her well for where she is today; she worked in Norway as a hair & makeup artist for a number of years, whilst moonlighting as a radio and TV presenter. This was followed by a move to London, where she did a BA Hons degree at London College of Printing (now LCC) immediately followed by a successful career in fashion, music and advertising photography.

In the last 9-10 years she has dedicated herself to retouching and Photoshop training on a high level. She has retouched portraits, beauty and music/entertainment faces for household names within UK photography – most notably album covers for Westlife, Des'ree, McFly, Alesha Dixon, VV Brown, as well as recent press shots for Sugababes, Paul Weller, Sam Sparro, Lauren Laverne, Adele, and Keisha Buchanan and currently doing a large amount of work for BBC. She has trained clients ranging from large broadcasting companies, publishing houses, design agencies, fashion businesses, holiday companies, photo-labs, magazines and newspapers, as well as a whole host of photographers, digital operators and retouchers. In-house courses have included: QVC, Metro Imaging, ASOS, Hachette Filipacci, Avon, Proctor & Gamble, Stylo Rouge, Radley Yeldar, Bloomberg News, Talkback.

Gry is also the author of four successful E-books on Photoshop colour and retouching for CS3 and CS4, available on Eureka Imaging Publications. She is currently working on a fifth title, which will hopefully be available in 2010, and a DVD, out late August 2010.
